Vijay is one of Kollywood’s top heroes, and according to his fans, he will be the heir to Rajinikanth’s superstardom. Only time will tell if he will scale such phenomenal heights, but as it stands now, he needs a super hit movie. After Pokkiri, which was one big bang last Pongal, Vijay has had three releases (Kuruvi, Azhagiatamil Magan and Villu). All three met lukewarm responses at the box office, Villu being the biggest disappoinment of them all, because it has the Vijay-Prabhu Deva combo that stunned us all with Pokkiri. Vijay’s next project was already annouced; it is Vettaikaran to be directed by Babu Shivam, who was director Dharani’s associate. Dharani managed a successful Gilli, but missed the mark with Kuruvi. Where Dharani failed, will Babu Shivam find success? It’s always a big gamble in cinema, and only the risk-takers make it big. So let’s see what Babu has in store for Vijay and his fans. Vijay has already shown his political inclination in the lyrics of songs in his movies and his fanclub flag. And now, he opts to use an MGR film’s title for his movie. Will he too take the political route?
One thing we do know for sure. There will be no cutting back in the glamour, even though Kollywood Queen Nayantara is not on board. Playing Vijay’s love interest is Anushka, who is quite the most-wanted lady in Tollywood right now. We hear that ever since Vijay netted her for Vettaikaran, several of Kollywood’s young stars have been vying for her to pair with them, and all of a sudden, Anushka is being smothered by calls! Let’s hope she takes the right ones! Shooting for Vettaikaran starts today.
