In Kollywood this year, March is the month of very impressive dubbed films. Anushka’s mega blockbuster Arundathi, Rajinikanth’s yesteryear Bollywood blockbuster Khoon Ka Karz; Bhavna’s first Telugu film Ontari, which did good business in A.P., and Sushmitha Sen’s Chingaari are the films dubbed in Tamil.
Both Arundathi and Khoon Ka Karz (dubbed in Tamil as Engal Arasan) have created a craze, usually reserved for big-time and direct Tamil movies; people are eagerly following every piece of information about these films and awaiting their release.
Most of the fame that Arundathi has garnered could be due to Anushka’s stellar performance. Excellent visual effects and director Kodi Ramakrishna’s neat narration have increased its appeal, making it one of the most exemplary movies ever made in the nation. The plot of the protagonist’s struggle (Anushka) to free her family from a curse, the film appealed to the audience very much and it grossed Rs. 26 crores within a few days of its release! Thenaandal Films, which is releasing this film in Tamil, is rumoured to have paid an astronomical sum to acquire the dubbing rights. Film pundits forecast that Arundathi will do the same stupendous business that it did in Andhra Pradesh.
Though film critics observe many things from a neutral standpoint, extrapolating valuable and interesting information, when it comes to Rajinikanth, they cannot help but marvel at his charisma. Pointing out the response to Engal Arasan as the best example of Rajni’s charisma, the film critics expect the film to set box-office records for a dubbed film!
Engal Arasan, the dubbed and revamped version of Rajinikanth’s Bollywood movie Khoon Ka Karz (1991), has created a tumult of excitement that precedes the release of any new Rajni movie! Agreed that the film is backed up by excellent promos, is it not surprising that producers are ready to bet on a film that released almost two decades ago?! Well, that is the Rajni Magic! Fans are sure to love this film, in which Rajinikanth has the maximum footage, best songs and exciting stunts!
Bhavna’s first Telugu film Ontari, which has been dubbed in Tamil as Subramaniyam, is also expected to do good business, as it has all the cinematic elements that thrill an average Kollywood fan. The film stars Gopichand in the lead and stars several actors well known to Kollywood including Sayaji Shinde, Aashish Vidyarthi and Rajiv.
Sushmita Sen’s dubbed film Chingaari is a tale about a sex worker and her revenge. Dubbed in Tamil as Peyar Sandya, Thozhil Dasi, will be a refreshing experience for Kollywood audiences, who always wanted to see this first Indian to win Miss Universe in a Tamil film.
