Directors turning into actors and choreographers turning into filmmakers have been so clichéd in Kollywood. None the less, here’s a new era where our Stunt choreographer Kanal Kannan turns to be the protagonist of this film.
Though based on a real life incident, the film’s plotline seems to have been picked from yesteryear Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Kaun’ starring Manoj Bhajpayee and Urmila in lead roles. But don’t compare this one with Ram Gopal Varma’s stupendous thriller.
In fact, the film has a gripping script penned by Bhuvanai Kannan, but a flimsy screenplay spoils the best attributes.
The film opens with series of mysterious murders taking place in Chennai. You know what’s next? A fast-n-furious cop (K.S. Ravi Kumar) is set to investigate them. On the immediate cut to next shot, it’s Shiva (Kanal Kannan) getting out of a mental asylum. The cop zeroes down that a lunatic is responsible for these murders. Shiva unnoticed by anyone around barges into the house of a film director (Livingston) and threatens his wife (Bharathi) not to howl or yell about his stay here. Meanwhile, cops pin down a psychiatrist (Kushboo) is responsible for the murders…. Here’s the twist for the audiences and if you think that’s it, you’re wrong. As the situations urge her to do, Kushboo reveals that murder is none other than _________???
Start guessing and watch the film for it.
The film has been narrated with thrilling factors, but director could’ve stopped Kanal Kannan from leaping here and there. Everyone knows that he’s a stuntman and again he needn’t showcase it merely at scenes where there isn’t necessity out for it. Or else it’s Kannan doing justice to his role. Bharathi keeps up her good work as in her ‘Ammuvaagiya Naan’. Kushboo and Ravikumar carry the film whenever the screenplay goes sluggish.
Nothing else to appreciate on technical aspects, as they have been handled with mediocre. For a thriller film, both music and cinematography has to be the most essential components and again that’s completely lacking finesse here.
On the whole, ‘Satrumun Kidaitha Thagaval’ could’ve been far better if screenplay was handled perfectly.
