Film: Poo

Film: Poo

A simple yet profound tale of a rustic girl told in a very gripping manner – that is what Poo is all about. The film excels in all departments of cinema, especially cinematography. The beautiful and picturesque locales of Tirunelveli have been picturised perfectly. With striking visuals, Poo breathes life into its source – Veyyilodu Poi, a short story by S. Tamizhselvan.

Cinematographer P.G. Muthiah and director Sasi have an eye for detail and have presented the usual village in a striking manner. The usual horizon, huts, palm trees, all seem to lose their usualness and look strikingly different and attractive in this wonderful film. Sometimes, to achieve this effect, they had to improvise a lot – for example the “the palm quartet” and the tree house they built! The crew found “twin palm trees” in an area, then Sasi, Muthiah and art director K. Veerasamar hit upon the idea of building a tree house in it to film a song. As it was extremely difficult to build a tree house with only two palms as supports, they hauled two more palm trees from the nearby area using giant cranes and planted them besides these “twin palms” and also made sure they survived. Then they built a surrealistically beautiful tree house in this arrangement and shot a beautiful song in it! It became quite an attraction for the locals, who swarmed the area every day to watch the tree house.

It is said that some villagers even requested the crew to leave the tree house undisturbed after the filming was over!
