The prolific and talented music director Deva celebrates his birthday today.
Even as a child, Deva was musically inclined and would spend most of his time practising musical instruments and singing. And that is the reason he adamantly stuck to his decision of becoming a music director even after going through insurmountable struggle in the beginning of his career. It is said that in his days of struggle, he rarely slept and would be up all night practising music and inventing new tunes. All this hard work paid off when he got his first break in Manasukketha Maharasaa. Then came Vaikasi Poranthachu, which became a phenomenal success. And thus began Deva’s “musical journey”, which saw him compose more than 400 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
He invented his own brand of music, blending Western, Indian classical and rural music, becoming extremely popular for his “gana songs”. He is also famous for his flexibility and productivity – he churns out tune after tune as soon as filmmakers approach him!
Today, he is a content man with his son Srikanth Deva following his footsteps and scaling new heights in the music industry. His nephew Jai has become a famous hero in Kollywood and his son composes music for his films!
