Titling a film follows definite patterns which change from time to time. But there is one definite pattern that is well-established and highly superstitious – naming a film after a yesteryear blockbuster hoping that the success will be repeated.
Some examples of repeated titles spelling box office success are: Kamal’s Sathileelavathi, Dhanush’s Pollathavan, and most recently, J.K. Riteesh’s Naayaghan.
So, the producers of Silandhi have decided to adopt this strategy for naming the Telugu version of their film. Twenty years ago, when Kamal Haasan’s Sigappu Rojakkal was dubbed into Telugu as Erra Gulabi, it did tremendous business in Andhra Pradesh. So, the producers of Silandhi have decided to take this title hoping to repeat its success.
Silandhi, which enjoyed great success in Kollywood, proved that small budget films can do tremendous business. Now, this G Company production will try to repeat its magic in Andhra Pradesh. With brilliant performances from a young team of actors – Munna, Monica and Santhru – good story and taut screenplay, Silandhi’s dubbed version will definitely do well in Andhra Pradesh. Plus it has the luck of Kamal Haasan’s Erra Gulabi!
