Though it is very common for several Malayalam heroines to rule the box office of Kollywood, it is quite a rare accomplishment for Malayalam heroes to act in Kollywood films. Though many Malayalam heroes have tried, none of them succeeded like Mammootty and Prithviraj.
Though Mohanlal got a good reception in Kollywood and Bollywood, the actor’s reluctance to stay away from his homeland and its projects made him unavailable to these film industries. But Mammootty has always been a special attraction for Kollywood.
His charisma and accented Tamil endeared him to Kollywood audiences, which saw him act in super hits like Thalapathy, Mounam Sammadham, Azhagan, Anandam, Kandukondein Kandukondein and the critically-acclaimed Vishwa Thulasi. But gradually he began concentrating more on Malayalam films.
Now, after a small hiatus from Kollywood, the “mega star” is back with Aruvadai; it is also heard that he has agreed to act in another Tamil film, teaming up with an equally charismatic Sarathkumar.
This yet-to-be-titled film will be produced by Trisakthi Sundar Raman who produced the recent hit Vallamai Thaaraayo (Chaya Singh and Parthiban). Sanjay Ram, who directed Iyakkam, will be the director.
It is said that the story revolves around two business tycoons and the entire film will be shot in foreign locations, beginning in January or February 2009.
