Vaali, the wordsmith of Kollywood, celebrates his 77th birthday today. This living legend is the most celebrated and successful lyricist of Kollywood and has been in the industry for more than four decades writing songs for all right from Sivaji to Suriya! With excellent flair, he can write any type of songs – be it with pure Tamil words or a hip-hop song or the popular “kuthu” songs of Kollywood.
Born Rangarajan Iyengar in a traditional family, Vaali had a natural finesse in Tamil language. As a voracious reader, he was able to hone his skills further. Though he was a good painter, he realised that his interest lay in words! So, he decided to turn poet. But Vaali too has a story of struggle. It is said that there have been days when he contemplated suicide vexed by his abject poverty.
But a poet is a spring of beautiful thoughts and can inspire anyone with his beautiful thoughts and words. Vaali decided to fight rather than succumb and became one of the best lyricists of Kollywood.
Not just lyrics for films, but Vaali has also written numerous books including Avathara Purushan, Paandavar Bhoomi, Krishna Vijayam and Naanum Indha Nootrandum.
Vaali’s life is truly inspirational and he is a living legend!
